Hiroshima Boys Choir Visits Heckman!!

If you are interested in learning more about the Japanese culture from a kid's point of view, please click here for a great website.

What a wonderful experience for our school! This group of boys, aged 9 through 20 visited with us on Monday afternoon, March 27th. Their performance included traditional Japanese songs and some dances. 5th Grade students ate lunch and worked hard on communicating with the Japanese boys. They had a great time at recess playing kickball, soccer, wall ball, and four square together. The entire 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade student population at Heckman sang the Japanese song, "Sakura", with the Japanese choir at the conclusion of the performance. (Scroll down for more info)

.

Thanks to all those 5th grade students and parents who helped to sponsor their visit. Donations helped to defray the cost of the bus that transported them from their homestays in Philadelphia to the Bucks County area and also helped to pay for gift bags. (The gift bags were filled with Tastykakes, Hershey kisses, Neshaminy Middle items, Heckman t-shirts, Phillies hats and pins, and an American flag pencil.)

Many thanks to Mrs. Rattigan for helping to fund the Boys Choir's visit to Pennsbury Manor in the morning. (See below for photos from Pennsbury Manor.) Thanks to Mrs. Keating, Zacharias, Reiser, and Ms. Smith for helping to prepare gift bags for the Japanese students and lunch for the Japanese chaperones and of course,to the Heckman PTO for donating the t-shirts.

We were so lucky to have our neighbor, Chikako Kobayashi, volunteer as our translator for the day. She was invaluable in helping us communiate with our guests as well as helping our guests understand the tour guide at Pennsbury Manor.
