Immigration Project

"We are all immigrants."   President John F. Kennedy

The 5th grade social studies classes did a project on their family backgrounds. We learned that members of our families were all immigrants at one time or another. We spoke to our relatives to find out if they knew when the first member of our family first came to America. I found that my great grandfather was from Holland. He married a woman who was in a higher caste (social class) than he was. She was disinherited from her family and their fortunes, so they moved to America. We heard stories from students whose ancestors were famous- Kings, generals, spies.
