Orchestra

All students in grades 3, 4, or 5 are eligible for the instrumental program. Third graders can play a string instrument while fourth and fifth graders can play a string and/or a band instrument. Each child will receive a weekly thirty-minute group lesson with one of our instrumental music teachers. This lesson will be given during the school day and scheduled by the instrumental music teacher in cooperation with the child’s classroom teacher. As each child progresses, at the instrumental music teacher’s discretion, they will join the school band or orchestra.

The orchestra at Heckman consists of selected 4^thand 5^th grade string players and an elite group of winds, brass and percussion players. These students rehearse one morning a week before school in order to perform two concerts a year in December and May.

Third grade string players are given an opportunity to perform with the Beginner Ensemble at the December concert.
